im really starting to notice my hearing damange, and because of that, i’ve been doing some reading on the hearing loss from the cisplatin.
here’s a good short article i found:
http://www.kantrowitz.com/cancer/ototoxicity.html
im for sure gonna talk to my doctor about this upcoming “extra” cycle of cisplatin as im not certain anymore if its worth it. the hearing loss has been pretty noticable.
i missed 3 cycles of bleo because of the lung damage, and this is why he wanted one extra cycle of the other two.

“Patients who experience hearing loss should take steps to avoid anything that is likely to cause further harm to their hearing. In particular, they should avoid loud noise environments (duh), salt, aspirin, smoking and caffeine.”
caffeine! salt! boooo. well, according to that first article some people get some of the high freq hearing back after 2 years or so. so there’s hope dude.

what the hell.
that sucks my ass.

I guess we should scratch that box of “willy wonka’s salted caffeine drops” off your christmas present list.
jeez, that sucks man. I’ve dealt with hearing loss and tinnitus/hyperacusis in the past- so if you ever want any information on how I dealt with it I’d be happy to help. Due to our differing root cause it’s probably two different animals though… but one piece of advice re: tinnitus (if you have it) is to not dwell on it. Focusing on it with your mind makes it worse. In a lot of ways, distraction is the best medicine.

yah. the tinnitus is getting worse in the right ear.
two tons, 1k-ish (loudest) and 10k-ish.
i have a nice two tone sound.. at least they’re in harmony. one more and i have a chord!

ya, remember i read that at the hospital your first day? which might mean no mastering until you are done.
fuck dude, noticeable already though? i hope it’s temporary man. But even if it’s not, i think your brain will make up for loss.
I remember kyle was saying something like that, he thought he might have some hearing loss dj’ing but that he didn’t notice cause his brain made up for it.

yah totally noticable. its a bummer.
also, im now as bald as kyle.. so it works out!

a chord. sweet. at its worst, mine was a two tone random arpeggio. would’ve sounded killer with some delay and a bit of reverb, but instead it drove me to despair. I wound up making a variable noise patch on my nord modular to mask it so I could get to sleep. (the patch sounded like the ocean) lol, probably the most use I ever got out of that thing
this was all before I learned the doctrine of “ignore it and it will go away.” that also comes in handy for when you get a chubby in gym class.

What’s you doc say about going for one more Bleo t/x instead of more cisplatin?
Are you being given a choice between lung damage and hearing damage?
